The amendments approved by the Parliament on November 3, 2022 concern local programs and specify the fact that media service providers are obliged to transmit programs in Romanian in proportion to at least 80 percent of the total of local programs broadcast.
Another amendment extends prime-time hours from “06.00-09.00 and 17.00-23.00” to “06.00-10.00 and 17.00-24.00”. According to the authors, these amendments will contribute to respecting the weight of local programs and, at the same time, to the realization of a flexible and attractive program grid for the public.
Also, new provisions were introduced for the providers and distributors of media services regarding the annual reporting to the Broadcasting Council related to the final beneficiaries and shareholders, sources of funding and ensuring the transparency of this information towards the public.
The legislative initiative aims to modernize the quality of the legal norms concerning the audiovisual field and aims to ensure the predictability and clarity of the provisions of the Audiovisual Media Services Code.
